#HarGharTiranga (Har Ghar Tiranga) is a nationwide Government of India campaign encouraging citizens to hoist the Indian National Flag (Tiranga) at their homes, offices, and institutions around Independence Day to foster personal connection, respect, and patriotism toward the Tricolour.
It began in 2022 under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (to mark 75 years of independence) and has become an annual people’s movement coordinated by the Ministry of Culture. The 2026 edition (its fifth year) runs from 9 to 17 August 2026 and is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the National Song Vande Mataram. Mass singing of Vande Mataram is a key element this year, alongside flag displays.
India’s 80th Independence Day falls on 15 August 2026. Related observances include Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on 14 August. A new global initiative, Suryapath Tiranga, involves sequential flag-hoisting at Indian missions worldwide following the path of the rising sun.
How to participate?
- Hoist or display a proper national flag at home (or another suitable place), following Flag Code guidelines. The flag may now remain hoisted day and night if it is illuminated properly at night.
- Take a selfie or photo with the Tiranga.
- Upload it on the official portal harghartiranga.com (enter basic details such as name, mobile number, and location). You can then download a digital certificate or video.
- Join local Tiranga Yatras, rallies, concerts, band performances, or community events.
- Learn and sing Vande Mataram via the 5-step guided tutorial available on the campaign site.
Participation is voluntary. Always treat the flag with respect (do not let it touch the ground, use it as clothing/decoration improperly, etc.).
The official site also offers resources on the Flag Code, downloads, volunteer opportunities, and stories related to the Tiranga. Over the years the campaign has seen massive participation, with crores of selfies uploaded in previous editions.
